In the world of debating, adjudication plays a crucial role in evaluating the arguments presented by teams. Adjudicating involves assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each team's case, identifying areas of clash, and determining the winner based on the arguments presented. Effective adjudication requires a deep understanding of debating principles, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
Recently, a group of students attended an Adjudication Workshop at Victoria Park High School, where they learned the intricacies of adjudicating debates. The workshop provided valuable insights into the art of evaluating debates, helping students understand what makes a winning argument and how to judge debates effectively.
Following the workshop, the students took an adjudication exam, which tested their understanding of debating principles. The results were impressive, with Cassidy Harmse, Sameer Asghar, and Tamisha Lingham achieving Double Gold, the highest level. La'eeq Gajjar and Sinombulelo Danster also excelled, achieving Silver status.
This achievement not only signifies that the students are now qualified to adjudicate debates in the future but also marks a significant milestone in their journey as debaters. The workshop and exam experience took their debating skills to a new level, enabling them to analyse past debates with a deeper understanding of what worked and what didn't. By understanding the dos and don'ts of debating, they are better equipped to craft effective arguments and evaluate debates with precision.
The Adjudication Workshop was a game-changer, providing students with a new perspective on debating and empowering them to take their skills to the next level. With their newfound knowledge and skills, they are poised to make a meaningful impact in the world of debating.
