From the 1st to the 2nd of August 2025, Westering High School hosted their bi-annual production. This display of talent surely lived up to its name, from the vibrant dancing to the nostalgic singing, the vision was truly brought to life by everyone involved. The theme of Move, although open to interpretation, was heavily based on taking a trip down memory lane and bringing it to the present day, with performances of hits that are considered classics to many. Through observing performances of songs like ‘Can you stand the rain’, ‘Suited’, ‘Osama’,’ Goema Koor’, ‘Emcibini’ and many more, it is clear that people of all ages and backgrounds were definitely taken into account with this captivating set list.

The results of this production, however, are only a glimpse of what truly went on behind the scenes and the blood, sweat and tears that went into making Move what it turned out to be. To paint a picture of their experiences leading up to the production, here is what some of the performers had to say:

‘Rehearsing for Move was honestly the longest but best rollercoaster- it took a lot of practice, patience and LOTS of late-night rehearsals, but it was also so much fun bonding with everyone, and we’ve become like a family in such a short period of time. Going into it, I expected things to be super stressful and maybe even a bit chaotic, but once we actually performed, it came together way better than I thought. The energy from the crowd and how proud we felt in the end was way more rewarding than I imagined. This show was truly unforgettable, and I will forever cherish the memories and the bonds I have created with every individual performer. ‘

- Ashmieka Moodley (Vocalist)

During rehearsal, I was quite stressed as I didn’t know whether the show would come together or not. All the music we were dancing to just seemed so different, but in the end everything went amazingly and the audience enjoyed the performance.

-Thando Madolo (Dancer)

So, yes, from an outside perspective, Westering High’s production was a huge success. However, if you delve deeper into WHY Move was truly loved, you see that it could not be possible without everyone behind the scenes. Whether it be a cast member, director, chorographer or backstage crew member, to be a part of something like this, to build a vision from the ground up, to commit wholeheartedly without even being sure of the results, is the ultimate display of dedication and was surely a fulfilling process to be a part of.
